Aid

NEWS!

Been working a lot on Dimmy and her mining. She’s now 70 with N.R. and Epic flying. Huzzah! Aid’s BS is coming along as a result.. now 370/450, OTTOMH.

And speaking of which, it’s not time to talk about:

Aidran

You want them? You have to go through me first.

Well. Aid’s story is long and confusing, but I’ll see if I can boil it down. I started him (as Konstantin) so I could level with Mill’s Warlock, and we did for quite a while till our levels got desynched. Since Mill’s probably going to come in here and say it was my fault anyway, let’s just assume it is. 😉

I leveled as prot basically the entire way, and did most of that levelling in instances. And this was, of course, far before the LFG system we have now.

Now I gotta say, I love Prot pallies. Because I love to solo. I solo’d much of Mauradon while the mobs were still yellow to get this: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=17774

Granted I had the advantage of some excellent gear and BC-flavored enchants, but that’s still gotta count for something.

Could I have gotten help? Sure. But I didn’t need it.

I’m a goddamn Pally.

And Pally tanks are fucking unkillable, especially the oldschool ones. You know, the ones with the big mana pools and  5/5 Spiritual Focus. Pushback? HA HA BITCH PLEASE. Oh you’ve got an actual interrupt? Well too bad because I just HoJ’d your head down into your ass. Oh and mana? Basically everything I do, or you do, gives me mana.

No heals? No problem. I’ll do it myself.

I’m a goddamn Pally.

See other classes can be tanks, but oldschool pallies were battleships. You just roll one out and while It takes a while for the job to get done, it gets DONE.

Business as usual at level 59.

I suspect at some point Blizzard realized that having a tank that nothing short of an instance boss or a fair number of caster mobs could kill (and depending on the boss, I could solo those too sometimes…) was a bad move, so they neutered us by killing our mana pool and making it so we have to suck our mana through the little sippy-straw that is Divine Plea. (which.. oh yeah, reduces our healing by 50%, removing viable self-heals and therefore making us killable again.) Good move on their part I guess, but still, there was much weeping and gnashing of teeth on my part as I watched my mana pool whittle away to the measly 5K it is today. Feh.

I still miss those days.
Anyway.

At some point I moved him over to my RP server. The idea was to help a guildie who was struggling to get involved with some RP and also at some point to provide a viable tank for the guild. (They had an admittance process even for current members so I couldn’t just show up and join. Actually the toon was a secret from most of the regular players, because I’m just like that. >.>)  Aidran had an interesting personality and outlook. He was a bit more of a mary-sue than most of the other toons I ran, I liked to describe him  as ‘a bit like Obi Wan in plate mail’. He was very quiet and actually very gentle, but totally unafraid to stand up and right what needed righting. His only major quirk was that instead of belonging to a Paladin order he was more of a freelancer since he didn’t quite believe unilaterally in the Cathedral’s doctrine. He eventually got involved in a romance which suffered a good deal once it became apparent that with him everything took a backseat to the Light and working for the greater good. It was a shade depressing, but I’m glad it happened as it added a lot to the character.

Turn to page 2.

On second thought maybe the romance went okay.

In any case things went just fine right up until the time came when I left the guild and I had to write poor ‘ol Aidran out since he was being transferred along with the rest. But hell it was fun while it lasted.

I still really enjoyed tanking, so I picked that back up again on Bloodhoof. Aid’s always lagged a bit behind Corvy in terms of gear but he’s just as fun to play (given the right party) and I still have a log of fun with him. I think if I ever start caring about completion,  Aid will be the toon I use for it it.

Eventually I decided to make use of my free spec to start rolling as Holy. It’s been fun so far but I can’t say I’m very experienced yet… I may be switching to Ret soon and trying that instead, time will tell I suppose.

Yarr.

I only blame you in the sense that you were the one who kind of stopped logging in to level. Mill just got really fun at that time and I finally just said to hell with it and out leveled you.
